Launcells Ladies Skittles
We might not win all our games, but we do have a champion raffle prize winner in Mary Littlejohns. Each week the home team provides 2 raffle prizes which is always nice to try and win. However for the last 5 games Mary has won a raffle prize. She has even picked out her own ticket. We now joke that Mary is not allowed to enter any more raffles unless it’s the National Lottery !
Mary and Madeleine were both winners of the raffle at our game against Holsworthy.
The lovely Valentines supper we provided for Bradford, with homemade biscuits and the raffle prizes from Sandy, and sandwiches and chocolate strawberries from Chelsea and Caroline. Thank you ladies.

Skittles and Social Night
Our fortnightly Skittles and Social Nights have now finished for the winter as Skittles season restarts in October. It’s been great fun with lots of cake eating, card playing, crafting, chatting and of course playing Skittles.
Thank you to everyone who has attended these evenings. Look out for other social events throughout the winter that we will be hosting.
If anyone is interested in playing Skittles for Launcells ladies or men, please contact myself for the ladies or Trevor Tape or Brian Pollard for the men. ( The ladies can play for the men as well). Our contact details can be found under Regular Bookings at the front of the magazine.

Skittles and Social Night
Our fortnightly Skittles and Social nights are great fun with not only games of Skittles, but also a mini quiz courtesy of Val Chidley, crafting with Susanne Bartrop and the odd game of whist as well.
Tuesday 23rd July saw Suzanne Littlejohns win not only the Skittles “Killer” knock-out game but she also took home the honours in winning the quiz as well. Well done Suzanne.
It was lovely to see our visitors Linda and Clara as well as Chelsea and Adam who came along for the first time.
Tuesday 6th August We had 2 quizzes tonight with Susanne Bartrop providing a quiz on 1960’s music, won impressively by Sandy Cheshire and a speed quiz on local churches and their saints provided by Val Chidley which was won by Susanne Bartrop.
The Skittles “Killer” game was won by Nathan Pollard, just beating Caroline Tape with Mary Littlejohns coming in a close third.
No Skittles experience required or come along for a chat, have a go at the quiz or crafting or a game of cards.

Well done to the ladies for the first half of the season. With all different ages and abilities playing they have all come together as a team and despite being at the bottom of Division B with only 2 points, several games have only been lost by 2 or 3 points. So, fingers crossed for the second half of the season that we can turn these games around in our favour.

The ladies now play in a team of 8 as opposed to the men who play in 2 teams of 6. So, there are 2 games per evening against the same opponents. We are still looking for our first win, but the season is still young.

Skittles Practice Nights
The newly formed Launcells Ladies Skittles Team have been hosting some practice nights throughout the summer in preparation for the start of the Holsworthy and District Ladies Skittles League Season 2023-2024 in the autumn.
These sessions were open to both ladies and gents, experienced players looking for a bit of practice or complete beginners.
We usually started off with a knockout game where each player started with 3 “lives” and had 1 ball per turn and had to hit at least 1 skittle in order to keep their “lives’. This got more and more competitive as people were knocked out and when the last 2 or 3 players were left that’s when the tension rose. Would Freda Hockin win again? Freda was the winner for several weeks in a row, but on our last evening before our summer break she was finally beaten by Graham Tape.
Tea, biscuits and cake then followed with lots of chatting before we played an actual game of Skittles with prizes for the winning team, as well as a prize for the knockout winner.
We’ve had great fun over the summer playing Skittles, many times we’ve had tears rolling down our cheeks from laughing so much. I must say it did seem strange at first playing in the daylight as we normally play over the winter months when it is dark outside and usually cold and raining.
We are holding another practice evening on Thursday 7th September at Launcells Parish Hall 7.30pm £1.50 including Tea, Coffee, Biscuits and Cake for anyone who fancies having a go or putting in some practice.
